A country house is now quite often used not only in the warm season, but also in the cold winter, which means the room should be warm. To do this, many try to connect a water circuit to a stove or fireplace to ensure efficient heating of the home. After all, not every country house has a centralized heating system. This is why fireplaces with water circuits are gaining popularity. The use of coolant increases heating efficiency and the house warms up better. This is especially important when it is frosty outside. This ensures fast heating. And thanks to the presence of a glass door in most of these models, you can also admire the open fire.
Operating principle
A stove with a fireplace and a water circuit is a chamber (steel, cast iron) with a wall thickness:
- 4 mm – open version;
- 6 mm – closed model.
The design diagram contains a heat exchanger in which several tens of liters of coolant circulates. Pipes extend from the heat exchanger, which drain water into the heating system and supply it to the radiators. To determine the temperature of the coolant, sensors may be provided in the design.

As a rule, air access to the firebox is controlled manually. The device can be lined with various materials, so you can create an attractive fireplace in your home with your own hands. Sometimes the design includes a hob, which also allows you to prepare dishes.
Application
Obviously, water-heated fireplace stoves are used in private homes. They are characterized by ease of use and a high level of safety, even though firewood is used as fuel. At the same time, they can have an attractive appearance that improves the impression of such a device.
Attractive looking fireplace stove
Thanks to all these qualities, there is a high demand for designs, especially those with a hob. They are effective in those regions where there are problems with electricity supplies and there is no gas supply.
In summer, such a device can be used to heat water for household needs. And if there is an addition, it can also perform a heating and cooking function. Since fireplace stoves are characterized by high heat output, they significantly reduce energy costs.

We make stove heating with a water circuit with our own hands
It is quite possible to make stove heating at home with a water circuit with your own hands, especially if you have experience in laying a brick stove. First you need to prepare a heat exchanger or, in other words, a boiler. You can make it yourself (see the design diagrams below). In this case, you also need to study the shape and make it, taking into account the features of a water heating stove for a home or a heating and cooking stove.
To install stove heating with a water circuit with your own hands, you need to install a tank in the combustion chamber of the stove and connect a water heating system to it. Having experience in welding, you can make a tank (heat exchanger) yourself. A heating and cooking stove with a water heating tank uses this option. Below is a video of a do-it-yourself stove heating installation.
As a material, steel sheets of different thicknesses can be used; it is best used in furnaces with a water heating circuit, see the photo for the design diagram.
To use this design in heating and cooking furnaces, it is necessary to build the furnace structure so that hot gases or fire pass over the top shelf of the water heating boiler, entering the smoke circulation in the front part of the firebox. If you plan to do everything yourself, then you need to do all the calculations yourself.
The second option for using such a water heating boiler for a heating and cooking stove for a house made of sheet steel, see photo. For stove heating with a water circuit, it is recommended to use boiler diagrams, changing the dimensions depending on the size of the firebox of your stove. As already mentioned, water-heated stoves can be fully heating or heating-cooking. You can see how to lay a brick oven with your own hands in the video below.
There are two ways to install stove heating with a water circuit:
- When laying a new brick stove with a water circuit, the dimensions of the boiler and the wiring of the water heating system are taken into account.
- Installation of the register in a brick stove that already exists in the house (the boiler is made to fit the size of a brick stove with a water circuit) and wiring from the water heating stove.
The thickness of the walls of a stove heating boiler with a water circuit should be from 3 to 5 mm, otherwise they can quickly wear out and it will be necessary to change the water heating boiler and disassemble the stove. The thickness of the walls of a furnace with a water circuit depends on the type of fuel that is used.
See the diagram for the location of the water heating boiler.
For a heating and cooking stove, it is necessary to provide for the need to remove the stove to clean the boiler; in heating stoves for a home with water heating, cleaning is done through the combustion door. The boiler can be mounted in smoke circuits or in the hood of non-circulating furnaces, see photo “Location of the heat exchanger in the furnace hood.” Experts prefer this option, since the firebox of a furnace with a water circuit creates the best conditions for complete combustion of fuel.
Before realizing the idea of making an economical Kuznetsov stove with water heating (see photo) with your own hands, there is a need to determine the function that the stove with a water circuit will perform. There are more than 150 heating device schemes.
Consider the option of a Kuznetsov stove with water heating. Study the layout of the house; if the house has not yet been built, plan the placement of the stove so as to achieve heating of each room equally. It is not advisable to install heating into an already built house, but it is possible. If you are not confident that you can make a Kuznetsov stove with your own hands, then it is better to hire specialists
How to build a Kuznetsov stove with your own hands is described in the training video.
Advantages
We can summarize all the advantages of using such heating equipment in homes:
- creates a unique cozy atmosphere in the house;
- work autonomy is guaranteed;
- the house can warm up very quickly;
- the device runs on economical fuel - firewood;
- the possibility of combination with any type of heating systems is provided;
- relative accessibility.
As already mentioned, the design diagram may contain an addition that allows the device to perform heating and cooking functions. Dishes prepared in this format are characterized by a special taste, which clearly surpasses the taste of food created on classic, as we understand it now, electric or gas surfaces. Therefore, the heating and cooking function is a very advantageous advantage of fireplace stoves.

Main characteristics of a wood-burning Aqua fireplace
To make a final decision about installing an aqua fireplace in a house, cottage or country house, you need to clearly understand its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include the relatively low cost of an aqua fireplace (a ready-made mass-produced model will cost much less than laying a stove by a master), the ability to combine it with an existing heating system, and fuel available to many (firewood and fuel briquettes).
The aqua fireplace can operate in automatic mode, which means that you can control it from the remote control
Characterized by rapid heating of the room through the use of convection heating from the fireplace itself, autonomous heating, which is an advantage compared to gas or electric heating systems, and modern design combined with functionality.
The main disadvantage of a fireplace stove is a consequence of its undeniable advantages. Firewood is a low-calorie fuel that burns quickly, giving off heat, but it will have to be added to the fireplace regularly. The use of the Angara Aqua aqua fireplace instead of a boiler by the manufacturer Meta group of companies is not encouraged. This is due to the low economic efficiency of such heating in constant mode. An aqua fireplace is indispensable when prompt heating of a room is required in combination with an existing heating system, as well as to rationally use the heat generated when wood burns.
Kinds
Furnaces with a water circuit can be divided into two groups:
1. Ready-made devices with a transparent combustion door. A heat exchanger is provided for connection to the heating system.
Ready-made fireplace stove with decorative trim
2. Devices with a base in the form of a fireplace insert. There is a water circuit heat exchanger.

Both species are characterized by individual characteristics. Let's consider each option in more detail.
Price of a finished stove with water heating
Building a stove yourself is a difficult task, although quite doable. But it’s easier to use the developments of professional engineers and developers. The most popular products on the Russian market are products from Eastern European and Russian factories. You can buy various models of stoves at an affordable cost, the price of a stove with water heating for a home primarily depends on the manufacturer, the following companies are known on the Russian market: ABX (Czech Republic), MBS (Serbia), EdilKamin (Italy), Breneran ( Russia).
Let's look at the products of well-known stove manufacturers and their costs in more detail:
- ABX, this company produces heating devices with a complete fuel combustion system. The main differences are excellent design and high heat transfer.
- MBS can offer modern design and functionality.
- EdilKamin is a large supplier of fireplaces and stoves. The manufacturer relies on a variety of designs. The basis of the EdilKamin water circuit furnace is built according to the water jacket scheme.
- Breneran produces stoves that are installed in non-residential premises and boiler rooms.

Finished metal devices
Such a furnace with a water circuit is purchased ready for use. All that remains is to install it in the right place, then connect it to water heating and install a chimney.
Ready-made fireplace stove made of metal
If we compare this design with the design of a solid fuel boiler, it has an obvious advantage. The stove not only increases the temperature of the coolant, but also heats itself, which means it warms up the room. And thanks to the presence of a transparent door, it will create the feeling of having a fireplace with water heating in the room.
There are also advantages to this design. An important advantage of a furnace with a water circuit is that it can be dismantled and moved from place to place.
There are several options for such devices:
- cast iron;
Mass-produced cast iron fireplace stoves
- steel;
Branded steel stove-fireplace
- decorated with tiles.
Cast iron samples are more durable than steel ones and retain heat well.
The latter are more accessible. A fireplace with a water jacket and tile trim retains heat even longer, while looking much more attractive and can decorate the interior of a private home. Its only drawback is the high cost, especially if it is a branded device. And products from unverified manufacturers cannot provide guaranteed reliability.
Furnace design
One of the most pressing issues for people who want to build a private house or cottage on their own is the problem of how to heat the house in the cold part of the year. Heating a house with electricity is quite expensive; gas connections are not available everywhere.
As an alternative, the familiar brick stove is perfect for heating a home, which has not lost its relevance over many centuries. In the harshest winter, a successfully installed stove heating at home can make a private home or cottage a warm and cozy place.
Let's look at the main components of a wood-burning stove in the diagram.
The main components of a wood-burning brick oven are:
- A firebox where wood is burned.
- Wood stove ash collector.
- There are fans to raise smoke and combustion products.
- Wood stove chimney.
All four walls of a brick stove are heated, so most often a wood-burning stove is located in the center of a private house or cottage. For stove heating of a large private house, sometimes two brick stoves may be required. Stove heating of a house or cottage is quite feasible with the help of a small stove.
See the photo for what a real wood-burning stove looks like.
Red brick is the main material for the construction of a wood-burning brick stove for a private house or cottage; this brick stove for a home gives off heat for a large amount of time.
Currently, stoves with a water circuit are used for the construction of private houses and summer cottages (see photo). Heating of the house occurs not only due to the heated metal body, but also due to the fact that the air of a private house is heated by the heat of water or other liquid passing through the stove heating system.
Furnaces with a water circuit for heating a home make good use of heat by directing part of the energy to heat water in the furnace heating system. One of the features of a stove with a water circuit for heating a house is a metal water heating element - a container with fittings for connecting the pipeline, see photo.
A brick stove with water heating for a home is available to any owner of a private home, since in terms of costs this heating is one of the most economical, and it does not require special preparation work.
Devices with a base in the form of a fireplace insert
Externally, such a fireplace stove with a water circuit looks more like a classic fireplace, but in fact it is a more complex heating element, which makes it possible to seriously increase the efficiency of the process. Indeed, in addition to heating the water heating coolant, effective air convection is ensured, caused by the technology and design of the device body.
There are two types of similar fireboxes:
- closed;
Stove-fireplace with closed firebox
- open.
The device has a heat exchanger that allows you to transfer the energy received from the firebox during the combustion of fuel (wood) into a heating system with a coolant, and therefore through pipes to radiators, which can be located in all rooms of the house.
The firebox is located in a body made of natural stone or brick.
This design of the fireplace stove has obvious advantages:
- Attractive appearance. The device is very reminiscent of a classic fireplace, giving the room a presentable appearance.
- The firebox is much cheaper than a finished device, and you can make a brick body with your own hands.
- The dimensions of the metal firebox almost completely correspond to the dimensions of a classic fireplace.
Not without its drawbacks:
- for the installation of such fireplace stoves, a reliable foundation is required;
- non-transportable - to move even to the next room you will need to dismantle the masonry;
- lower efficiency than ready-made devices;
- require quite a lot of space for placement.
If you take these disadvantages into account in advance, the operation of fireplace stoves will not bring any inconvenience.
Choice
Note: First of all, you need to pay attention to an important parameter - power. The indicator is determined by the dimensions of the device (dimensions of the firebox). The ready-made options include documentation that will help you understand the technical qualities of the equipment in question.
When choosing, you need to focus on the rated power. The average figure is 1 kW of power per 10 m2 of house.
Brand matters. Since a fireplace stove is a dangerous device, it requires compliance with certain standards, which in most cases can only be provided by a trusted manufacturer.
Mass-produced long-burning fireplace stove
There are several offers on the market. For example, "Meta Group". The stoves are presented under the Aqua brand. They are manufactured using German technologies; foreign materials are used, which allows us to obtain reliable models. All products are adapted to difficult Russian operating conditions. The body is steel and coated with paint.
Ready-made branded stove-fireplace
The firebox is lined with fireclay bricks, so high temperature endurance is ensured and heat is retained. The range includes models that perform heating and cooking functions. As noted, they not only heat the house through pipes, but also allow you to cook food. These capabilities are realized through the use of one type of fuel and one device.
Serial fireplace stove
Foreign-made products are characterized by reliability, quality, and attractiveness. You can highlight the products of the Italian brand Edilkamin. The peculiarity of the models is that they can be combined with solar panels. Some devices have spits in their design, which also allow cooking food.
Fireplace stoves with water circuit MBS (Serbia)
Another manufacturer worth considering is Sky. The devices are characterized by large fireboxes, which guarantees increased efficiency. The finishing of the stove is made of stainless steel and glazed tiles. All models are equipped with additional options that simplify operation and improve application.

Results
Note: If you want to not only heat a private house or cottage, but also get some pleasure, then a fireplace stove can be a good choice. It will allow you to combine the efficiency of water heating and the aesthetics of a fireplace.
And if the device is equipped with a hob, then it can also help in cooking. As a result, you can get a universal solution that will create warmth, comfort, and even save money by ensuring reduced fuel consumption.
