The warehouse heating system is a complex of equipment, instruments and other technical means necessary to create and maintain optimal temperature and microclimatic conditions in premises during the cold season.

For this purpose, centralized and autonomous systems can be used. Heating large warehouses differs significantly from heating ordinary residential and public premises. This is due to their significant area and internal volume.

Heating systems used in warehouse complexes are classified according to the heating method and the type of energy carrier.

Air systems

Air heating of a warehouse is one of the most popular heating methods. It is well suited for hangar-type buildings with a large area and significant height. Air is used as a coolant, which is heated by a heater to a given temperature. The heated air masses are forced by a fan into the air duct system, through which they are distributed throughout the warehouse.

The types of air distribution devices and their locations are determined by the characteristics of the building. There should be no structural barriers in the path of the warm air flow. In buildings with ceiling heights of up to 8 meters, the air is distributed by non-surface jets, which are formed at a height equal to 35-65% of the total height of the room. At a height of more than 8 meters, air distribution is carried out by spreading jets. They are formed at a height of 85% of the total height of the room and laid on the ceiling.

Warehouse heating with fan heaters has the following advantages:

  • Efficiency up to 95%;
  • low heating inertia - the room warms up almost immediately after the system starts;
  • extensive automation capabilities;
  • Possibility of integration into the ventilation system.

Air heating

Air heating has recently become the most popular way to maintain room temperature.

Centralized air heating systems have air-heating units that distribute warm air into rooms through an air duct system. Uniform return flow through the room is ensured by air distributors. Air outlet points are designed so that the air flow does not pass through massive building structures. The air is released with spreading jets in low (up to 8 m) rooms, and with non-flooring jets - with a room height of 8 m.

In order to choose the right air heating system, calculations are required involving the amount of air exchange in the room, the amount of heat loss, room category, etc. To select a heating unit, there is a methodology from the Central Research Institute of Industrial Buildings and Occupational Safety Institutes.

Water systems

Warehouse water heating is a traditional heating method. The coolants used are water or antifreeze. The coolant is supplied through pipes to radiators, which ensure efficient heat transfer. Heating systems for small-volume warehouses may provide for natural coolant circulation. In larger complexes, forced circulation is necessarily maintained using pumps.

Warehouse heating is connected to the centralized heating network through an individual heating point, which ensures optimal distribution of the coolant, control of its temperature and flow, and metering of thermal energy consumption. If there is no possibility of a centralized connection, an autonomous system is installed. In this case, it is necessary to install your own boiler room.

A typical problem with radiator water heating of warehouses and warehouses is the accumulation of warm air in the upper part of the room. At the same time, the layers of air below do not warm up enough, and heat leakage through the roof also increases. The solution is to install ceiling fans, which circulate heated air throughout the entire room.

Steam systems

In steam heating networks, saturated water steam with a temperature of up to 130 °C is used as a coolant. It circulates through a network of radiators, giving off heat and condensing. The resulting condensate returns to the heat exchanger by gravity or is pumped by pumping equipment.

Advantages of warehouse steam heating:

  • low level of heat losses in heat exchangers;
  • low inertia of the heating system due to rapid heating of radiators;
  • relatively low level of hydrostatic pressure;
  • small dimensions of thermal equipment.

The disadvantages of steam systems include a decrease in efficiency due to heat losses in steam lines, noisy operation of the system, and intense corrosion processes on metal parts. Also, the high coolant temperature, which does not fall below 100 °C, imposes its limitations. Installation of steam systems in warehouses that release volatile flammable substances, flammable or toxic dust into the air is not allowed.

Air-thermal systems

This method involves the installation of auxiliary heating systems with the installation of air-heat curtains, which are installed at the border of the cold and warm zones. Thermal curtains are installed in warehouse gate openings, door and window openings. They prevent chilled outside air from entering the room and significantly reduce heat loss.

The width of the curtains of different models ranges from 600 mm to 2500 mm. For larger opening widths, several curtains are installed. The temperature of the air forced by the curtain is up to 50 °C. The air flow speed is maintained up to 8 m/s in the entrance area and up to 25 m/s at gates and openings for technological purposes.

Gas heating of warehouses

The equipment that exists today makes it possible to implement air and water heating of a warehouse with gas. In the first case, air heaters on gas burners are used, in the second - boilers.

Gas heating of warehouses is the most economical method (if it is possible to connect the facility to a central gas pipeline). However, it must be taken into account that the design of such a system requires approval from supervisory authorities. Relatively high start-up equipment costs will be required. When installing a boiler room consisting of several boilers, a separate pipe must be connected to each unit. The combustion products must also be removed through a separate chimney for each boiler.

Electric heating of warehouses

Infrared heat emitters are used for electric heating of the warehouse. These are heating panels that are mounted on the ceiling. They generate radiation in the infrared spectrum, which transmits thermal energy. Under the influence of this radiation, objects, floors, warehouse furniture and equipment heat up.

Compared to other types of electric heaters, infrared panels consume significantly less electricity. They use an efficient heating principle, which ensures high efficiency. With their help, you can easily organize heating of warehouses of any size. Placing heaters on the ceiling frees up useful space.

Heating a warehouse with electricity using infrared panels is advisable to use when it is not possible to connect the facility to a centralized heating network or install an autonomous system.
