Installation of K Flex insulation

Insulation of pipes with this material is carried out taking into account clear requirements:

  • Work should be carried out at an ambient temperature of at least +5°C
  • apply insulation adhesive to a degreased surface;
  • clean the insulated communications from dirt, dust and rust.

Surface cleaning should be carried out with materials intended for this purpose. If you use some improvised means, the insulation may not stick to the entire required surface.

Direct installation of insulation is carried out in the following sequence:

  • A thin layer of glue is applied to the cleaned, pre-degreased dry surface of the pipe and to the insulation itself. Adhesive consumption – 0.15 liters per 1 sq. m area;
  • when the glue hardens during work, it is diluted with a special k-flex cleaner;
  • if you choose insulation with a self-adhesive surface, the above steps can be omitted;
  • the glue should dry for 3-5 minutes, after which the insulation is directly installed on the surface of the pipe;
  • if the product is in the form of a sheet, the installation is carried out in such a way that the middle of the pipe falls on the top of the pipe;
  • the insulation, in the form of a tube, is carefully cut lengthwise and installed on the pipe.

Installation of K-Flex materials is quite simple, and even a beginner in thermal insulation work can install it themselves. At the same time, it provides reliable protection against exposure to cold air. The insulation has sufficient flexibility, which allows it to insulate pipelines of any configuration.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Bring the edges of the K-FLEX insulation together and squeeze them tightly for a very short time. To avoid uneven joining or stretching of the material, start working from the ends of the insulating tube, then move to its center, then move along intermediate points.

Use a flexible spatula when applying K-FLEX adhesive to large surfaces. If you are gluing K-FLEX material over the entire area, first apply the adhesive to the insulating material and then to the surface. When the glue has dried sufficiently, place the sheet on the surface and press firmly for a short time.

To protect against weathering and ultraviolet rays, insulation exposed outdoors must be painted in two layers with K-FLEX paint. The second coat of paint is applied only after the first has dried (after approximately 36 hours, but not more than five days). It is recommended to repaint every two years.

INSULATION CUTS

Remaining K-FLEX insulating tubes and sheets can be used in places where a small amount of material is required: for insulating corners, bends, flanges, valves, etc.

K-FLEX installation: technology, recommendations

To effectively perform the insulating function of the K-FLEX coating with the necessary indicators for tightness, thermal protection, and noise absorption, the installation rules must be followed.

Product selection K- FLEX

  • The suitable type (plate, roll, tube, tape, tee, angle, hanger) and brand of K-FLEX product are determined in accordance with the thermal calculations provided by the K-FLEX manufacturer. Also, when making a decision, the location, material of manufacture, dimensions of the insulated object, requirements for fire, environmental, sanitary and hygienic safety, the presence of external influences (UV radiation, vibration, mechanical shocks) are taken into account.
  • For devices and pipeline networks with an operating temperature of ? 150°C, a protective heat-resistant layer is installed before applying the main K-FLEX layer to reduce the temperature level to an acceptable level.

Conditions for installation work

  • The equipment that is supposed to be equipped with a coating must be turned off and, together with the K-FLEX insulation, be protected from precipitation and adverse external factors.
  • The permissible ambient temperature is limited to the range from +5°C to +30°C. At negative values ​​up to -15°C, specialized adhesive K-FLEX K-467 with a composition temperature of ≤10°C should be used.
  • During the installation process, it is imperative to take precautions: when welding metal parts, cover K-FLEX products with non-flammable materials, prevent particles or chemicals from getting into your eyes, and ventilate the room.

Preliminary preparation

  • Before starting work, contaminants (rust, dust, moisture, oils and grease) are removed from the surface of the object (tank, pipeline, equipment, equipment) and the K-FLEX layer using the K-FLEX cleaner, and elements made of aluminum or stainless steel are pre-activated with emery cloth coarse grain paper.
  • K-FLEX glue is stirred to the optimal consistency (formation of 5-7 drops on the probe within 30 seconds), and if the composition is too thick, the composition is diluted with K-FLEX cleaner in an amount of ≈20% of the total volume.

Execution procedure and installation technology K- FLEX

  1. Installation of K-FLEX insulation in the “tube” version: K-FLEX foam rubber in the form of a tube is stretched entirely over parts of the pipeline or shaped elements (outer diameter up to 160 mm).

In the case of already assembled structures, the K-FLEX tube is cut to length or a model with a self-adhesive longitudinal seam is used.

2. K-FLEX roll insulation: installation. Pipelines with an outer diameter of more than 160 mm are wrapped in K-FLEX rolls in 1-3 layers, depending on the desired thickness, and the seams of each layer must be spaced apart.

3. Installation of K-FLEX thermal insulation on bends and T-joints: For curved and branched sections of the pipeline, it is advisable to use ready-made K-FLEX corners and tees, and it is also possible to manually prepare fragments, assemble and glue them into the desired configuration.

4. Finishing of non-standard elements with K-FLEX products:

— In the initial section of the K-FLEX plate, holes are cut for the protruding parts of the shut-off valves (valve, faucet, gate valve) to ensure a tight fit and no gaps.

— To insulate a transition on a pipeline that connects pipes of different diameters, it is necessary to make two wedge-shaped cutouts on opposite sides in the K-FLEX tube, adjust them to the required dimensions and glue them clearly along the lines.

5. Installation instructions for K-FLEX: hangers. The hanger selected according to the size range is opened and put on the pipeline at the point where the support is located at a distance of 2 to 7 m from the adjacent hanger, based on the diameter of the pipeline. If necessary, it is secured on top with a metal clamp of the suspension system.

Attaching the K- FLEX

  • The glue is applied to both surfaces with a consumption of 0.3 l/m3, left for 2 or 3 minutes (in buildings/outdoors), then the parts to be glued are joined, pressing with force for 10 seconds. The final drying of the glue occurs after 36 hours.
  • Seams when connecting the sides are sealed with glue and K-FLEX tape, with the edges treated with K-FLEX K-MASTIC 55 sealant for complete sealing.
  • To fix K-FLEX metal coverings, bandages are used, and for PVC and AL CLAD models, K-PACK plastic rivets are used.
